New Yorker, Marc Jacobs was born in the big apple in 1960, starting out designing for Perry Ellis and creating a "grunge" collection that later became a cult favourite and more currently an inspiration for other designers showcasing their wares at Fashion Week.
In 1987, Jacobs created his self titled label and 10 years later the New York designer had climbed the ladder and was appointed Creative Director of Louis Vuitton, where he created the company's first ready-to-wear line and as a result rejuvenated the brand, giving it a youthful appeal.
In 2001, the designer decided to focus on the energy of young New Yorkers and with them in mind, Marc by Marc Jacobs was launched and quickly became a staple fixture in the young and cool’s wardrobe. The Marc Jacobs clothing collection translated seamlessly; from everyday to special occasions, adding that extra touch of New York cool to every day sartorial wardrobes across the globe.
Marc by Marc Jacobs was only launched in 2001 by Marc Jacobs own independent company. The Marc by Marc Jacobs collection is independently run by the designer where he allows himself more freedom to experiment with different approaches to his fashion. Jacobs is profound for his beautiful, delicate and vintage imagery in his work. Marc by Marc Jacobs allows the designer to still interpret these characteristics as well as adding a more retro and urban edge to this line of clothing and accessories. The popularity and success of the new brand is proving to be a success which thankfully will allow Jacobs to continue to further this exciting new brand.
