Chopard Celebrate Fifteen Years at Cannes
Swiss luxury jewellery, watch and eyewear maker Chopard celebrate fifteen years as an official sponsor of the most prestigious and glamorous film festival on earth; the Cannes International Film Festival this year.
In 1998, a year after opening a boutique on the Promenade de Croisette where the festival takes place, Chopard were approached by it’s president and that year the coveted Palme D’Or trophy received a new look. The redesign by Caroline Scheufele Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director is the form that the award still holds today. Another award; the Chopard Trophy was introduced in 2001. It’s tenth edition was presented by Robert De Niro who chaired the panel of judges last year.

Marilyn Monroe, who never actually attended the festival is the official poster girl for the 65th festival. In the Chopard lounge at the Hotel Martinez an exhibition of twenty-five unpublished photos of the icon by Milton Greene will be on show for the first time. Chopard's Caroline Scheufele was inspired by the images and has created a jewellery collection as a tribute. The new Chopard jewels will be showcased by Eva Herzigova on the festivals opening night.
Chopard's breath-taking sunglasses receive as much care and attention as the famous high jewellery. Ultimate luxury, these unique sunglasses are handmade with precious metals and stones.

Another Sunglasses Shop brand has been bringing much to the festival in recent years. Gucci has backed the Martin Scorcese chaired Film Foundation further this year and donated thousands to the 4k restoration of Sergio Leone’s Once Upon A Time in America which will screen as part of the festival’s Cannes Classics.

French fashion house Dior has named one of it’s latest sunglasses collections after the famous Croisette. The exciting collection of four styles includes stripes inspired by illustrator Rene Gruau and delicious vivid colour.
The festival which brought to the world’s attention directors such as Martin Scorcese, Francis Ford Coppola, Quentin Tarantino and the Coen Brothers sees a selection of American directors this year hoping to break their careers too. The selected films will bring the likes of Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman, Gary Oldman, Reese Witherspoon and Kristen Stewert to the red carpet. Ewan McGregor, Diane Kruger and John Paul Gaultier are amongst the 2012 judges.
